Initially the Interpreters' Petition Group sought centralisation ofÌýPublic Services Interpreting into a not-for-profit organisation, based on WIT's (Wales Interpreting and Translation Services). However that was rejected as a petition as it is not for UK Government to decide - it is an issue for the Local Authorities.Ìý
In respose to thisÌýthe Association of Interpreters and Translators (AIT)Ìýsuggested theyÌýpetition for the protection of title. The Interpreters' petition groupÌýmet to discuss and moved forward with this approach. After several exchanges with theÌýPetitions Committee the petition has now been posted.Ìý
