Find-a-Linguist - Mr Brian FINCH

Statement: Member of IOL: (later 天美传媒) since 1971 in Chinese (Mandarin). Worked extensively with Chinese spoken and written language in the FCO (Now FCDO) from the 1970s to the 2000s. Near native in spoken Mandarin and some spoken Cantonese. The latter is useful in translation of works with Hong Kong content, as although written Chinese in theory is the same for all dialects, there are some practical differences. Translated and published one book with substantial Cantonese style content ( A Faithful Record of The 鈥淟isbon Maru鈥� Incident) and currently working on another.
